- Mount Princeton Geophysical Field Camp (2009-05-18): Proposal DOC JPEG image
The nees@UTexas team demonstrated our Spectral-Analysis-of-Surface-Waves (SASW) testing technique at a Geophysical Field Camp hosted by Boise State University and Colorado School of Mines in Mount Priceton, Colorado on May 18th, 2009. A total of 20 students and faculty from London's Imperial College, Colorado School of Mines, Texas A&M University, and Boise State University participated in the demonstration. A WebEx seminar was held on June 2nd, 2009. Prof. Stokoe presented the SASW data reduction procedures in a 30 minute meeting for 12 students and faculty joining the meeting from the Colorado School of Mines campus. - Explore UT (2009-03-07): JPEG image
At this year's Explore UT, T-Rex and Thumper were brought to the main campus of the University of Texas at Austin for earthquake demonstrations. Liquefaction tanks with an orange model house were shaken by T-Rex to showcase the effect of liquefaction. - Explore UT (2007-03-03): Map PDF
At Explore UT, visitors are encouraged to unravel scientific mysteries, unleash creative energies and uncover the realms of discovery that are a part of everyday life at The University of Texas at Austin.
The nees@UTexas group will be describing the source and risks associated with earthquakes, demonstrating liquefaction, and showcasing the T-Rex and Thumper in operation. - Barrington Elementary School (2006-10-17): Poster PDF
Students at the Barrington Elementary School received an on-site demonstration of Thumper and an interactive discussion on why earthquakes occur, the risks involved in areas of earthquake activity, and what steps can be taken to reduce their impact in the future. This tied in with topics being covered by the teachers during their in-class Earth Science lectures. - Del Valle ISD Middle School Student Summer Program (2006-06-28): Handout PDF Slides PDF
The Del Valle ISD Middle School Student Summer Program is a brand-new summer activity for middle school students through Del Valle ISD. The program, which is designed to make math, science, and technology fun and easy, has been developed through a partnership between Del Valle ISD and the Central Texas Technology & Education Executive Council (TEEC).
This program visited the nees@UTexas equipment site for a live demonstration of the T-Rex and a hands on session about the causes and risks of earthquakes and soil liquefaction. - Explore UT (2006-03-04): screen optimized PDF print optimized PDF

Thumper and the Instrumentation Van participated in the "10th Annual Northeast Community Harvest Fest" on Saturday, November 19, 2005. The "10th Annual Northeast Community Harvest Fest" is a local event held by the neighborhoods of Northeast Austin on the grounds of Reagan High School. Thumper was used to shake the parking lot, a world globe was used to explain the cause of earthquakes, liquefaction-model-tanks were used to showcase soil liquefaction, and two wooden bents were used to demonstrate ground motion isolation. Around 100 people of all ages participated in the demonstration. - Cooperative and Outreach Opportunities/Examples by Kenneth H. Stokoe II (2004-05-20): PDF
